This is my first blog for 2020. I stopped writing blogs at the end of last year because, I’ll be honest, I started the New Year feeling quite despondent.
Last year’s trading wasn’t great. Three years of uncertainty over Brexit had the slow effect of an ever tightening noose on consumer spending. With the result that from a personal point of view, our European sales had reduced drastically by the end of 2019 and reasonable retail sales were becoming harder and harder to achieve.
But then in January I had a ‘big birthday’ and I was extremely, and unbelievably, lucky to be taken on an amazing 72 hour whirlwind trip to Marrakesh (along with a group of close friends who my wonderful and gorgeous husband had secretly arranged to join us). Naturally much merriment and revelling followed, interspersed with strolls around the bustling city and leisurely walks through the vibrant souks. If you haven’t been, you should go!
The Result ..
The result of which was that I returned energised and inspired and bursting with lifestyle gifts and unusual present ideas for Gift It 2 this year.
However, whilst I was busy planning my exciting changes (some realistic and others not realistic at all but hey it’s nice to dream?!) Covid 19 arrived on our fair shores. All Spring fairs were cancelled and as a result everything that I had been planning from a stock and display point of view had to be re-thought.
So now, like everyone else, I am turning my focus to solely online trading for, I suspect, the rest of this year.
So my purpose today is two-fold; firstly to let you all know that I am very much open for business and secondly to update you on what has arrived this week.
The last few weeks of lock down for me have been actually quite busy.
Sorting out three meals a day for my family (does anyone else have sons who barely finish one meal before asking what you are planning for the next?); enjoying the wonderful recent sunshine and weeding the garden to within an inch of it’s life (just so that I had a valid reason to be outside enjoying the much-loved sunshine). Plus of course sorting through the endless and constant piles of washing that are produced by a family of five at home.
But I also, for a few hours each day, have been quietly toiling away in my ‘shop’. I have been pushing end of line stock into my Clearance Sale (there are still a few bargains to be had online) in order to make way for new stock. And what brilliant new delights they are!
New Delights ..
Part of my 2020 direction for Gift It 2 is to source a new style of homewares, inspired by the natural materials and ceramics I saw in Morocco. I have for a little while had my eye on a new supplier – Nkuku – whose earthy tones, natural hues and stylish simplicity is exactly what I am looking for. They are a UK brand, based in rural Devon, who work with artisans throughout the world, supporting and celebrating their skills by bringing their products to a wider audience.
So it is with great excitement that I am happy to introduce a few beautiful home and lifestyle gift ideas from their Spring collection. All of their products are handmade from sustainable and eco-friendly materials, which I believe Gift It 2 customers are searching for with increasing regularity. There are more products to follow in a few weeks, once travel restrictions begin to lift and goods start to flow more easily.
To view all that we currently have in stock from Nkuku, please visit our website following the link Brand Collections on our welcome page.
Symbol of hope ..
Whilst the daily news regarding Covid 19 remains pretty depressing, there are a few ‘green shoots’ of positivity that we can all gleam. Life is slower, people are generally kinder and society is more considerate. These are definitely changes that we should embrace and celebrate.
However one additional ‘by-product’ of Coronavirus is also the emergence of the Rainbow theme as a symbol of hope for the future. Consequently, I am also delighted to introduce our new Rainbow Gift Collection which I hope will help provide colour, joy and optimism that, in time things can .. and will get better!
These products range from brightly coloured Ceramic Mugs and Rainbow Vases to liven up a dull corner in your home and show your passion for colour, to Rainbow desk accessories and small Rainbow themed gifts. Plus, in keeping with our commitment to source eco-friendly products as much as possible, it includes Rainbow Reusable Shopping Bags and quick dry Rainbow Towels. To view these products and more please visit our Rainbow Collection on our website.
N.B. 10% of our Rainbow Collection sales will be donated to NHS Charities Together.
If you would like to find out more about any of our new arrivals please head over to our NEW IN! category on our website. If you have any questions, you are very welcome to email me or message me via Instagram or Facebook.
Otherwise in the meantime I send my best wishes to you, your family, friends and colleagues during these turbulent times and hope you stay well, stay safe and stay positive.
All the best, Anne-Marie x
