Family and lifestyle trends for Autumn 2018

When I think about Winter, I think of crisp mornings, snow on the ground and the crunch underfoot. That coupled with family games around the dinner table, and hot chocolates in front of a warming log fire. It sounds perfect doesn’t it?

Winter is one of my favourite seasons because ultimately it means bringing the family indoors, spending time together and enjoying each other’s company. There are plenty of ways that you can create a cosy and fun environment inside your home this Winter, and here’s how.

Enjoy board games indoors

Playing a board game around the table after dinner, or on a Sunday afternoon, is a brilliant way to get the whole family together. Whilst the weather is colder and the evenings are darker, get your children to put their iPads to one side and join in the fun. Plus it’s a really great way to spark conversation too.

Here at Gift It 2 we have a host of board games to entertain your family including Lucky Dips where you either pick a charade, name a song, joke or dare. Or pass the Stinky Pig around the table, but be quick to avoid him tooting on you. Or the classic True or False family game. There is bound to be something here for you and your family to play, and they all make an ideal to be played on Christmas Day.

Sip on delicious hot drinks

Whether hot chocolate, mulled wine or a hot toddy is your thing now is the time to enjoy these, and there really is no better to excuse to have them after you’ve been outside on a long cold winter walk. The range of illustrated mugs by Katie Cardew is perfect for any of these drinks, and the entire family could be kept happy with either a deer & stag, pheasant, flamingo, penguin or hare design.

Or if you prefer your drink on the move in the great outdoors, the enamel Orla Kiely mugs allow you to drink your favourite tipple poured straight from the flask. There are four designs to choose from, but if you can’t decide you can buy four mugs for £45 (the current price for one mug is £12.95).

Keep warm in bed

There is nothing better than getting into a warm and cosy bed at night, and as adults we love that especially when the evenings are darker. But what about our children? We need to make sure that their beds are just as warm and cosy as ours, or even more so to be in for a chance of a better night’s sleep.

The new range of Long Hot Water Bottles in either a zebra, dinosaur or unicorn design will keep your child’s bed warm for up to 8 hours and also a lovely toy for them to snuggle up to whilst falling asleep and throughout the night. Now you will never have to worry about your child being cold in bed ever again.

Light up your home

You can really take advantage of the darker evenings and light up your home. Use stylish table lights inside to create cosy corners for reading books or to make your favourite room feel homely on a cold winter’s day. The Globe Light in french blue would look fantastic in a study or hallway, and even attract attention from friends and family as they point out all the places that they have visited around the world. Or the fully wireless Octagon Desk Lamp can be used is any room, and comes in a range of finishes including maple, walnut and black. This would make an ideal present for someone who has everything and would love a stylish light that they can easily move from room to room.

Lights are all on trend at the moment to add a ‘Christmassy’ theme to your home throughout the year. Take advantage of this and the fact that it is Christmas soon by jazzing up your home with these stunning Snowflake Pom-Pom starburst lights or the Table Starburst Lights. They are both fun, stylish and will create that wintry and sparking glow in your home you’ve been dreaming of.

Decorate your home until your heart is content

I love Christmas and I love to decorate my home for the occasion. There’s the Christmas tree, the sparkly lights around the home, the table decorations and a general feeling of excitement. Here at Gift It 2 we can help you create a stunning home this Christmas too.

Our sparkly Christmas Tree Hanging Gift Boxes create a lovely alternative to baubles and christmas tree chocolates. Fill these with whatever you like as long as it is small, and they will make a lovely treat for children to open during the run-up to Christmas. Or there are the 24 Colour-In 3D Decorations where children can colour-in stars, bells, angels and snowmen, and they can feel proud that they have contributed to the Christmas tree this year.

Christmas isn’t Christmas without an advent calendar and we have a stunning Christmas Star Advent Calendar that you fill with gifts and surprises yourself. The star boxes will look stylish in your home on their neon coral coloured ribbon, and the recipient will be enthralled with what they find in each box every day.

Keep the kids entertained

You may find that your children are inside a lot more during the shorter days and colder months. There is still so much that they can do indoors; they can play hide and seek, build dens, play games, read a book, create a car from a box, bake cakes or colour-in their own clothing. We have colour-in capes, T-Shirts and PJs, and your child will love to colour these in with the supplied pens that will withstand the wash. Now there is never an excuse for your kids to be bored at home ever again this Winter.

Those are just some of the ways that can enjoy your home with your family this Winter. I can’t wait until I can finally get out the Christmas decorations and start making the house feel all Christmassy. I hope that this blog post has given you some ideas for your home and also Christmas gift ideas too!

Best wishes, Anne-Marie
